Greetings,
Tom and I are going to be at Sibley Friday afternoon to skid the bridge timbers from Junction E (upper Cat Walk) to junction B (lower Tie Hack. These 3 timbers are huge and about 30′ long so I hope it goes as planned. Once we get them in place and the snow melts the Forest Service plans on covering them and we should have a bridge that will be good for many years. We brought in timbers last year for the creek crossing by the hut that will be used for the same thing.
The timbers may be blocking the trail at the lower Tie Hack junction creek crossing so use caution if you ski by them. We may put some X stakes in the trail at the top of little hill as you drop down to the crossing to warn skiers.
We will try to groom out the furrows caused from dragging the timbers as best we can and will probably also groom some or all the trails depending on the conditions. We are also pulling all the blue stakes and no dog signs as this is going to be the final time we groom this season so you can take your dogs on the Sibley trails from now until the snow melts.
The weather is showing a possible 6″ of snow from now through Saturday with temps around freezing both days. Skiing should be good especially in the mornings.
I got word today that our grant request was unsuccessful so the new snowmachine we had hoped on getting will have to be put off for now. As you know we did go ahead and purchase the a new groomer and is has been working great, it makes a great trail.
Thanks again for all of your support this and past seasons. Every now and then I get a email or membership letter from someone commenting that they have not skied Sibley a few years, and are amazed at the difference in the quality of the trails. We have come a long way in the 10 year that our club has been doing this.
There are some other news items but I will save for another time as you are probably bored with my rambling.
