Greetings,
Tom and I spent the day at Sibley today and got the drifted areas shoveled
out and rolled and bladed all the trails. I made three passed through Blue
Creek Loop with the Alpine so it is packed. I didn’t think I could pull the
roller through as the snow was hard to drag any implements so it is a little
rough. There was 8-10″ of new snow and it was warm up there. It was
actually sticky on the surface which stuck to anything we pulled. We did not
set tracks or pack Cutler.
Skiing Thursday should be great, especially skating. Friday morning should
also be good as the new snow shouldn’t be too much and the temperatures are
going to drop during the day.
On the down side the weather for this weekend looks rotten. If the forecast
holds true we could get a couple feet of new snow. Of course it is going to
be accompanied with a good dose of cold air with it. Lows in the teens
below zero and highs around 4 above. There isn’t supposed to be any strong
wind so that is a good thing. The snow is supposed to start Thursday night
and continue thru Sunday. I can’t say at this time if or when we will try
and groom the trails this weekend due to the weather.
Hermes may groom South Park Friday.
There is a bunch of snow on the
mountain right now. Those blue plastic stakes on the sides of the trails in
the meadow areas are 5′ long. A lot of them, there is less than a foot
showing. We have stopped and pulled some up so they don’t’ get completely
buried.
I had a thought today. We need to do a lot of limbing on the trails. We
haven’t done any for several years and it seems like when we are grooming we
are constantly ducking and dodging branches. Would anyone be interested in
doing a trail work day later this month or first part of April? We can ski
or snowshoe around the trails with pole saws and clean up the offending
branches. Now really is the best time to do it as with the deep snow they
are easier to cut and in the summer time it is hard to visualize what is
really in the way. If you would be interested in helping let me know and I
will schedule a work day.
Happy trails,
Curt
