The plan, at this time, is to groom Sibley and Cutler Friday night. There has been 4-6″ of new snow since we groomed last week so the trails should groom up good for this weekend. There had been a lot of drifting on the trails from the warm windy spell we had two weeks ago. We did shovel out the main trail above the lake but didn’t get it all. We plan on shoveling out the remainder when we groom this week. There was also a lot of drifting along the top of Dead Horse for about a 100 yard stretch. We did shovel enough to get the groomers across, but the snow was rock hard and the groomers can not feasibly flatten it. It is skiable, just a little bumpy for a stretch.
I don’t know how many of you ventured up last weekend. I went for a run down here on Saturday and about froze my butt while Linda and a friend were basking in the sun at Sibley enjoying 38F weather. Don’t let the weather down here fool you as a lot of the time it is nicer on the mountain. There is a link on our website to Burgess weather that gives conditions updated hourly, if in doubt check it out. https://blackmountainnordic.com/?page_id=295 This weekend is going to start out cold but warming up both days, Sunday being the best of the two.
I always hate to say this, our grooming season is going to be ending soon. I know that is hard to believe, as I look at the thermometer at -5 and dropping, but two years ago we groomed for the last time this weekend. Last year we groomed thru the third weekend of March due to the cool weather and good snow. Once the weather warms up the trails get icy and we just can’t do much with them plus usage really drops off.
I thank you all again for your membership dollars and donations this year. We still have not hear anything of the grant that we applied for this fall. We had applied for another fourstroke snowmobile and a 84″ Ginzugroomer. We made the decision to go ahead and purchase the Ginzu since we had the funds and you may have noticed that the trials are a little flatter and smoother than in past years because up the new groomer. It also is saving us some time grooming since it is a wider unit. Although we don’t have the funds to buy the snowmobile at this time, without the grant we could be in a position to do so in a year or two thanks to your great support.
Happy trails
