Good Evening!

The STORM! Almost everyone is talking about it. Some people are doubters, some people are over-psychers, and some people live under a rock and didn’t even know a storm was going to hit.
Nonetheless, we will receive some quality snow in the town of Sheridan this week. After this storm, there should be enough of a base for us to officially say “South Park is open for business”! This means there will be skiing in town for all the people looking to get in a few kilometers after work or for people who don’t feel like making the commute up the mountain.

If we do end up getting 16″ of snow in town it will be vital for groomers to pack South Park each day to stay on top of it all. We can get a better base by packing and rolling 4-6″ at a time. So please try to stay away from South Park until Thursday.

Downhill skiers seldom look at a storm and say, “that’s too much snow”, but in the world of nordic skiing, we often find ourselves saying, “that’s too much snow”! This is another example of too much snow falling on our nordic trails at one time. This can be a nightmare for groomers, especially when you throw in extreme wind and drifting.

Do not expect the trails on the mountain to be in good shape until Friday evening. Our groomers will likely make several trips up the hill this week to pre-run all the trails with snowmachines, pack all the trails with the rollers, and then make another pass to firm them up and set corduroy/tracks. Wish them luck!

I will be sending out another trail report later this week. Stay tuned!

Memberships/Donations:
If you haven’t already, make a donation to Black Mountain Nordic Club this giving season. All of your money goes directly back to you by providing you, your family, and your friends with amazing nordic trails in your backyard. We are truly blessed to have such great trails.

Thank you to those folks who have already donated for the 2022-23 season!
